This is PM Modi's first visit abroad, excluding the neighbourhood, since the outbreak of Covid-19 in January 2020.
The Indian crowd was chanting his name and was also waving the national flag amidst light showers. The PM could be seen smiling, shaking hands with the Indian community waiting.
One of waiting Indian-Americans said, "We are so excited to see Prime Minister Narendra Modi. We don't mind standing in rain. We are excited to meet Prime Minister Modi."
The PM was welcomed by India's Ambassador to US, Taranjit Singh Sandhu, along with the Defence attache, which included Brigadier Anoop Singhal, Air Commodore Anjan Bhadra and naval attache Commodore Nirbhaya Bapna.
During his 3-day US visit, PM Modi will be addressing the UN General Assembly and attending the Quad Leaders' Summit as well as hold a bilateral meet with US President Joe Biden at the White House.
