The Tamil Nadu government will start vaccinating people between the ages of 18-44 for Coronavirus starting Thursday. This drive will be launched by Chief Minister MK Stalin. Auto-rickshaw drivers, industry workers and the disabled are to be given priority, according to the health minister of the state, M Subramanian.

From the 46 crore rupees worth of orders placed, Tamil Nadu obtained 9 lakh doses of vaccines from the Centre. The total number of vaccine doses from the Centre went up to 78 lakh, and of them, 69 lakh doses have already been dispensed. The state government delayed the vaccination drive for people age 18 to 44, which was supposed to start from the 1st of May, due to a lack in supply of vaccines. People above age 45 are continued to be vaccinated.

Dr Radhakrishnan said, “Instead of waiting till tomorrow and disappointing people, I wish to clarify (now) that we are unsure when and how much out of 1.5 crore doses of vaccine sought by Tamil Nadu, will arrive.”

Tamil Nadu reported 34,875 fresh Covid cases & 365 new deaths due to the virus on Wednesday. Meanwhile, CM Stalin will be reviewing measures taken by the government to prevent the spread of Coronavirus in Salem, Tirupur, Coimbatore, Madurai & Tiruchirappalli from May 20-21.
