The year 2020 was the most different and difficult time in everyone’s lives. We were all forced to be confined in the four walls of our homes, many were forced to isolate themselves, almost everyone lost someone… This was a year when humans were confined but humanity prevailed. We all could finally relate and sympathize with others.
During these times of lockdown entertainment industry kept us all sane. Our movie stars, our songwriters, musicians, and their work entertained us and kept our minds light but no one was untouched by the tragedies that were going on around the world, and the entertainment industry too suffered losses.

Sejal Sharma – The first star we lost at the very beginning of this year was a 28-year old TV Actress Sejal Sharma of ‘Dil Toh Happy Hai Ji’. Sejal was found dead at her Mumbai residence on 27 January 2020.
Nimmi – One of the leading actresses of Hindi cinema’s golden era Nawab Banoo or as she was popularly known as Nimmi succumbed to a longtime illness. She breathed her last on 25 March 2020.
Irrfan Khan – A powerhouse of talent Irrfan Khan died on 29 April 1992 due to a prolonged illness. His unexpected demise was felt across the world and Bollywood as well as Hollywood paid tribute to the actor.
Rishi Kapoor – Before anyone can recover from the news of Irrfan Khan’s demise we got another heart-breaking news of Rishi Kapoor’s demise. Loved by the industry and the fans around the world Rishi Kapoor’s sudden demise left everyone teary-eyed.
Preksha Mehta – Known for her role in the TV show Crime Patrol, actress Preksha Mehta was found dead at her Indore residence on 26 May 2020. The 26-year-old had committed suicide.
Yogesh Gaur – Lyricist Yogesh Gaur breathed his last on 29 May 2020. His best-known work, which would be remembered for eternity, are the beautiful songs of the movie
Anand which was penned by him.
Wajid Khan – Brothers
Sajid-Wajid was one of the best music duos in the Indian film industry, but unfortunately Wajid Khan was taken away in 2020. The musician breathed his last on 1 June 2020 and was laid to resort Versova cemetery.
Basu Chatterjee – A film director best known for his portrayal of middle-class people with humor yet sensitivity, director and screenwriter Basu Chatterjee breathed his last on 4 June 2020.
Chiranjeevi Sarja – In the career span of just 11 years Chiranjeevi Sarja starred in over 20 films and won everyone’s heart. This Kannada film star’s death was even more heartbreaking as it was found that his wife was expecting their first baby.
Sushant Singh Rajput – A death that shook the world and is still hard to accept was that of Sushant Singh Rajput. His soulful eyes, raw talent, and that beautiful smile will always be remembered.
Saroj Khan – Masterjee of every dance lover in India, Saroj Khan breathed her last on 3 July 2020. The national award winner choreographer Saroj Khan was admitted to hospital due to chest pains.
Harish Shah – Best known for his directorial ventures ‘
Mere Jeevan Saathi’ starring Rajesh Khanna and Tanuja, ‘Kaala Sona’ starring Feroz Khan; director Harish Shah lost his battle against throat cancer on 7 July. He was 76 years old.
Jagdeep – Best known for his character
Soorma Bhopali in Sholay; actor and comedian Jagdeep died on 8 July 2020.
Kumkum – A career span of 115 films, Indian actress Kumkum breathed her last on 28 July 2020. She had acted in movies like ‘
Mother India’ ‘Pyaasa’ etc.
Sameer Sharma – Another popular TV actor Sameer Sharma was found dead at his Mumbai residence on 6 August 2020. He had starred in many popular shows like – ‘Kahani Ghar Ghar Ki’, ‘Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai’, ‘Jyoti’ etc.
Nishikant Kamat – The man who gave us the masterpieces like ‘

Drishyam’ etc. Filmmaker Nishikant Kamat was suffering from chronic liver disease. He passed away at the age of 50 on 17 August 2020.
Chadwick Boseman – A king of mighty Wakanda in reel life and a true king in real life; actor Chadwick Boseman silently battled cancer for years. All the while shooting for amazing movies like ‘Black Panther’, ’21 Bridges’, etc. Not knowing the truth, people criticized him for losing weight, not wearing fashionable clothes but the king remained num. Ashalata Wabgaonkar – Actress Ashalata Wabgaonkar had an experience of starring in over 100 Hindi and Marathi language cinemas. Best known for her roles in ‘Maher chi Saree’, ‘Woh 7 Din’ etc. She passed away on 22 September 2020.
SP Balasubramaniam – The Guinness record holder for the highest number of song recordings, which is whooping 40,000, SP Balasubramaniam left the mortal world on 25 September 2020.
Abhilash – We all sing ‘
Itni Shakti humein de na daata’ but do you know who has penned it? Lyricist Abhilash passed away in Mumbai on 28 September 2020 after losing the battle with cancer.
Bhanu Athaiya – Winning the prestigious Oscar is the ultimate goal of everyone in the entertainment industry. India brought home its first Oscar in 1982 for ‘Best Costume Designer’ which was won by Bhanu Athaiya.
